I just found this wonderful internet page that explains the background of the Mulan movies (1 & 2)
https://dare4ever.wordpress.com/2010/04/27/mulan-2/#comment-138
It explains the history of the original Chinese ancient poem that the Disney movies are based on, and it gives a full plot summary
of the movie and includes full-color still images to share with your friends and students...
And there are links to more amazing stuff at wikipedia:
like this Italian Renaissance Painting of the
Chinese Qianlong Emperor
on horseback...
painted by an Italian Jesuit Priest, Giuseppe Castiglione, who went to live in China in 1715 to become an Advisor to the Emperor
and he lived there for the rest of his life, until 1766.
This is an
amazing story
and history that you will not find in a school textbook, and it relates directly to our Marco Polo
Learning Unit! :-)
You can enlarge this painting to the most incredible detailed reproduction imaginable (5MB jpeg)... which is beyond words... to see...
https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/File:The_Qianlong_Emperor_in_Ceremonial_Armour_on_Horseback.jpg
Giuseppe Castiglione, whose Chinese name is: 郎世寧;
pinyin
:
Láng Shìh-níng
, was so influential and respected in China,
that his paintings are owned by National Palace Museum in Taiwan.
This is amazing Chinese History and Arts...
So Disney Corporation sent their team of artists to China to do real research and see and learn for themselves...
about the Legend of Mulan, way before starting to make the movie.
Disney is the best worldwide, and if they aren't, they buy the best companies to become part of the Disney Corporation;
That is why Pixar is now part of Disney, Inc. Pixar was the new best "cutting edge of animation technology", so rather than compete,
they joined forces as the One Biggest and Best Animation Company on the planet...
to be continued...
